Welcome
This site has as goal to catalog and show information about coins and banknotes that have circulated in Venezuela, with help to the difusion of this patrimony to the world and our country. The information contained in this website is in constant expansion, remaining only to be catalogued essais coins, patterns and trial strikes. Maybe there are some rare pieces that are not in the catalog, mostly specimen notes and notes issued before 1940. We welcome any comments, corrections, new information or pictures. Due to the dynamic of numismatic market, this site cannot provide the value of numismatic pieces, however as a guide, many prices are related to rarity, conservation, supply and demand. There are some catalogs that may help to get an approximate value, which is listed at Bibliography inside the References section. Other source of prices could be auction websites, like ebay and numismatic stores. Photograph sample

Rare 20 Bolívares pattern coin of 1989 July 20th, 2008
Recently, I received an information about a bimetallic (same as 1000 Bolívares and 1 Bolívar Fuerte) coin of 20 Bolívares with the year 1989. This piece was initially reported by Antonio Rodríguez in 2005, and it's 28mm of diameter with plain edge. Due to the fact that there is no officially a 20 Bolívares Coin issued in 1989 (the last one was in 1912 in gold, commonly known as Bolívar de Oro), the initial conclusion is an unapproved pattern, also supported by the legend in the obverse "DETSCHE NICKEL AC. SCHWERTE - MUSTER", which "Muster" means sample from German, and "DETSCHE NICKEL AC. SCHWERTE" is the same that minted some coins issued in 1989. This coin also appeared recently in the website Monedas Mundiales del Libertador Simón Bolívar. Thanks to Salvador Márquez and Massimiliano Aiello for this report. This piece will be classified in a future Pattern section, along with other known patterns such as the Paez cents. Confirmed 10 Bolívares Fuerte serie E8 banknote June 29th, 2008
